Sometimes A Great Notion

Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica just keeps getting better and better. Episode 13 was sheer genius. What incredible attention to details, what storytelling, what film-making!

Many shows get tired after a few seasons ("Prison Break" was just discontinued for that reason, also "Stargate: Atlantis") because their writers haven't been able to breathe life into the episodes, which just dragged on and on, having exhausted all possibilities.

Having gone past this point is a great achievement for the writers of BSG. Not only is their story still sound and interesting, but the latest developments have so smartly turned the tables that I can't help but take my hat off. Now *that* is how you tell a story.

When the ratings and the network threw a dare at them, they came back and said "Oh yeah? Take this then!" and just blew everyone over...

Using actors which are way above the -- let's say -- regular sci-fi shows standards, this show manages to talk to its viewers on a deep, emotional level. It's long gone beyond visual effects and explosions (though those are great and innovative, too). It's simply character development made interesting. It's simply like the actors are telepathically enhancing their characters to interact with the viewers.

If only I could be as creative throughout my life as they are for their show! :)
